Firearms, ammunition and permits
Q: Do you facilitate firearms transfers?
A: Yes, if you are buying from another dealer shipping a gun to us, Guns Galore will transfer a firearm for a fee of $35. Give the seller our e-mail (gunsgalore@arvig.net) requesting a copy of our FFL license. We’ll take it from there.
Q: What about private party transfers?
A: Yes, Guns Galore staff will also handle private party transfer for a fee of $35? According to law, both parties need to be present at our store during the transfer process. If the transfer involves a pistol or rifle with a pistol grip, the transferee (buyer) of the firearm must be a Minnesota resident. They will also be required to show a valid Minnesota permit to purchase or permit to carry. The transferor (owner) of the firearm should accompany the transferee (buyer) to the store and bring in the unloaded firearm so the proper paperwork can be completed, and then transferred to the transferee (buyer) if the background check is successful. If the transferee (buyer) does not pass the background check, the firearm would then be transferred back to the original owner. The $35 transfer fee is due regardless of the outcome of the transaction.
Q: What are the requirements to buy a gun?
A: You must meet the following criteria:
18 years of age for long guns, 21 years of age for handguns
Current Minnesota citizen or resident alien to buy an item classified as a handgun or pistol. You don’t have to be a Minnesota resident or resident alien to buy a long gun.
Current Minnesota identification or driver’s license with picture ID displaying current address
Minnesota permit to purchase or permit to carry for handguns or other pistol grip firearms
Pass NICS background check
Q: Do you offer permit to carry classes?
A: Yes. Several different firearm classes are offered. Get more information by clicking the “events” link in the upper right hand corner. See our Permit to Carry Classes page for more information or to register.
Q: What is the registration fee for the permit to carry classes?
A: $85 for a new certification, $75 for a renewal.
Q: Where do I get a permit to purchase or permit to carry in Minnesota?
A: Depending on your residence, either your local police department or county sheriff. More information can be found on the Minnesota BCA website.
Q: What are the gun laws by state?
A: Check out the Minnesota BCA website for more information.
Q: Is there an age limit to buy ammunition in Minnesota?
A: Yes. You must be 18 years of age to purchase rifle or shotgun ammo and 21 years of age to purchase ammo that can be shot through a handgun. More information can be found on the Minnesota BCA website.
Q: Where is the closest firing range to the Osakis General Store?
A: The closest range is owned and operated by the Alexandria Gun Club. Memberships are $50/year. More information on the Alexandria Gun Club is available on their website.
Q: Do you do gun appraisals?
A: Yes, Guns Galore will appraise guns for $10 each. This service is free when consigning a firearm.
Q: Do you buy used guns?
A: Yes, Guns Galore staff will buy, sell, and trade used guns.
Q: Will you sell my gun for me?
A: Yes, Guns Galore staff will take consignments. We will help you set the price and facilitate the sale. You receive 80% of the proceeds.
Q: Do you sell scopes?
A: Yes, we do. We will mount and boresight your scope for free if you bought it from us or for $35 if bought elsewhere.
Q: What brands of firearms do you sell?
A: Guns Galore has over 2000 new and used firearms in stock at any given time including Browning, Winchester, Henry, TIKKA, Smith and Wesson, Remington, Benelli, Savage, Ruger, Retay, Springfield, Kimber, Sig Sauer, Glock, FMK, Colt, Walther, Taurus, Thompson Center, CVA, Typhoon, Alex Pro Firearms, Weatherby, Mossberg, Black Rain, Windom Weaponry, Anderson Manufacturing and many more.
Q: Do you sell muzzle loaders?
A: Yes, we have a wide variety of muzzle loaders in stock.
Q: Do you have gunsmith services?
A: Yes, Guns Galore has an off-site gunsmith with years of experience. Drop off your firearm and we will get it serviced for you.
Q: Do you sell reloading equipment?
A: Yes, subject to availability.
Osakis General Store and Guns Galore information and policies
Q: Do you offer layaways?
A: Yes, we sure do. With 20% down, we will hold your item contingent upon receipt of a monthly payment. It is expected that layaways will be paid in full within six months. Layaways not picked up or paid for are subject to a 20% restocking fee.
Q: What is your return policy?
A: It is a federal offense for our store to accept ammunition for return once it has left our store so be careful to choose the correct ammunition. Also, once you purchase a firearm and later change your mind you cannot return a firearm for a full refund once you leave the store. Even if a firearm has not been shot, it is considered “used” for valuation purposes if was owned outside of a gun dealer. We may, at our option, purchase firearms in trade based on published valuations. All other unopened/unused items other than ammunition and firearms may be returned for a full refund with a store receipt.
Q: Do you take special orders?
A: Yes, we do it all the time. Let us know what you are looking for. If we don’t have it, we’ll try to order it with a 20% deposit.
Q: Do you participate in price matching?
A: We will attempt to match advertised prices for in stock merchandise at competitor's brick and mortar stores within a 60 mile radius of Osakis. Bring in a competitor’s ad and we will either match their price (if lower than ours) or do our best.
Q: I am pulling a boat. Where do I park my boat now that downtown Osakis is one-way only?
A: There is extended boat parking on the North side of the store along West Nokomis Street, or you can part along the side of the public parking area to the north of the store.
Fishing
Q: Do you sell hunting and fishing licenses?
A: Yes. Osakis General Store can take care of that. Note: If purchasing a husband/wife license, both parties must be present with adequate identification.
Q: Do you offer a fishing guide service in the Osakis area?
A: No. However, we recommend you check out Lake Osakis Fishing Guide Service. Scott Merwin is a professional fisherman and guide.
Q: Are the fish biting or is the ice out?
A: Best to keep your fingers out of their mouths to avoid being bit! Just kidding. We recommend contacting Scott Merwin of Lake Osakis Fishing Guide Service for updates on fishing conditions. His Facebook page is a wealth of information.
Archery
Q: Do you have archery?
A: Osakis General Store carries a nice selection of crossbows and equipment. Other than crossbows, we have limited archery merchandise, however, we can do special orders for anything you want.
